Denne, part of Leadbitter, has completed construction of a new care home on the outskirts of Orpington in Kent.
Foxbridge House provides a homely environment for older people and enables those living with dementia to stay independent, active and engaged for longer than they would be able to in the wider community.
Bright and spacious, the home boasts 84 luxury bedrooms. There is also a shop, hairdressing salon, café and library, all set around a tranquil, indoor village space.
External landscaping has been designed carefully to enhance residents’ quality of life and includes a communal, sensory and herbal garden with a large water feature. Patio gardens with raised planters also allow the residents to grow their own plants.
Further design aspects include the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof and a combined heat and power unit, which has helped Denne achieve a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating for the project.
Commissioned by Care UK, locally-sourced materials were used wherever possible and 98% of waste was recycled, with demolition material crushed on site and used in hard landscaping areas. Additionally, ceiling heights were set to use full sheets of plasterboard, to avoid cutting and wastage, and timber hoarding was removed carefully and re-used on other sites.
