Europe’s first telemedicine conference launches in Edinburgh
Inaugural conference to be held in October showcasing latest solutions
The first European Telemedicine Conference will provide an opportunity to showcase Europe’s global leadership role in telemedicine and Scotland’s contribution to one of the fastest growing areas of innovation in healthcare.
The inaugural event will be held in Edinburgh from October 29-30 2013 and will be jointly hosted by NHS 24’s Scottish Centre for Telehealth and Telecare and the Scottish Government’s Joint Improvement Team.
Tablets like the iPad are on the verge of changing telemedicine forever and are therefore anticipated to create a global telemedicine-dedicated device and software market of nearly €2billion by 2018.
Telemedicine offers a means to extend clinical services beyond the hospital. It provides a way to initiate a two-way communication with a patient outside the hospital, forever changing the doctor - patient relationship. In doing so, telemedicine has the potential to reduce hospital visits and relieve national healthcare budgets.
The European Telemedicine Conference will focus on practical telemedicine, telecare and mobile health implementations, best practices, research, development and innovation.
It will be opened by the leader of the Scottish National Party and First Minister of Scotland,Alex Salmond, with a keynote speech followed by sessions involving leading experts in telemedicine from around the world.
The aim of the conference is to create a platform for all stakeholders to share success stories with the objective of creating high-quality, integrated and sustainable health and social care solutions for Europe.
