Off-Site construction specialist, Elliott, has been awarded the contract for a £5m 108-bed staff accommodation block at Peterborough City Hospital.
The feature four-storey building was designed by Elliott to incorporate its innovative off-site manufacturing techniques and modular construction expertise which, when combined, offer the flexibility of bespoke design while maximising efficiencies by quality-controlled factory manufacture and a reduced onsite installation programme.
Peterborough City Hospital’s new accommodation block will be installed by Elliott in 16 weeks. The building will have a 60-year structural design life with a 25-year structural warranty.
Elliott has incorporated a wide range of sustainable and eco features into the design, including increased levels of insulation, low-energy lighting, energy-efficient heating systems and water-saving technology.
The Elliott system delivers all the benefits of off-site construction, while allowing complete design flexibility for features such as the inclusion of full-height glazed walls within communal areas to maximise natural daylight inside the building, as specified at Peterborough City Hospital accommodation block.
Dr Peter Reading, interim chief executive at Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “This build project will enable us to offer our staff good-quality accommodation at the city hospital site. The building has been created in a modular design, which means it will be more straightforward to extend it in the future, if necessary.
“I am pleased that the trust is able to work with a local company to develop the site and we look forward to watching it quickly take shape.”
Bernard Quenot, managing director of Elliott, added: “We have a long track record of providing high-quality building solutions on time and within budget. Our off-site systems offer assured levels of quality as well as meeting all current regulatory requirements.”
