Key figures behind the development of the new healthcare facility at the St Luke’s site in Market Harborough gathered on site to mark the topping-out of the building last week.
Topping out is a tradition in construction observed when the building reaches its highest point.
On completion, the new centre on the St Luke's site will provide a modern and technically-advanced health facility in Market Harborough.
It will provide a wide range of healthcare services which are currently delivered across a number of NHS sites in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland.
The facilities will provide a mixture of outpatient services such as primary care, including general practice, outpatient services and diagnostics, an X-ray department, mental health services, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, and some non-clinical, administrative services.
Richard Fielding, area director at Morgan Sindall, which is constructing the building, said: “Reaching topping out is a landmark in any construction project.
“Over the past few weeks the people of Market Harborough have been able to watch the building’s form take shape and they can now see it at its full extent.
“We are working to a strict schedule to ensure we can deliver these important facilities safely and efficiently.
“The NHS requires its buildings to perform in specific ways to enable it to provide excellent levels of care and we are privileged to be playing our part in helping make that provision a reality here in Market Harborough.”
Elliot Howard-Jones, director of commissioning operations for NHS England (Central Midlands), added: “This building is one of our biggest investments in planned care in the area and part of our commitment to ensuring the people of Market Harborough and the surrounding communities have access to first-class, modern healthcare services.”
