The construction firm has entered into agreement with the Government of Jersey to refine designs, confirm pricing and prepare for main works for new hospital

Construction firm Bouygues UK has entered into a professional services agreement with the Government of Jersey to carry out detailed planning and pre-construction work for the new hospital at Overdale.

“This hospital represents a significant investment in the Island’s future, and we are excited to be selected for this final phase of the procurement as the Preferred Tenderer,” said Philippe Bernard, Chair and CEO at Bouygues UK.

As the selected preferred and reserved tenderer for the project, Bouygues UK will work with the New Healthcare Facilities Programme (NHFP) team to refine their proposals, confirm their supply chain and price and prepare for the main works in early 2026.

The budget estimates set out by the NHFP and approved by the Jersey Government is £710m.

Ashbe Construction has been appointed to a development works contract to begin preparing the site ahead of the groundworks, along with local subcontractors and construction professionals.

“We are now further along than we have ever been with a hospital scheme,” said Deputy Tom Binet, Minister for Health and Social Services.

Next steps

Over the next couple of months, Bouygues UK and the NHFP team will hold meet-the-buyer events to advise the local construction industry and supply chain of the potential upcoming opportunities on the project.

The team will now work to discharge any pre-commencement and commencement planning conditions and develop further detail on site logistics, traffic movements and waste management.

The work at Overdale is just one of the many projects that Bouygues UK has been appointed to this year.

The firm is currently working on building a facility that integrates mental and physical healthcare for children and young people, with a strong focus on sustainability and research at Cambridge Children’s Hospital.

In July, they also celebrated the topping-out of a £80m all-electric Ambulatory Diagnostic Centre at West Middlesex University Hospital.

In January, they teamed up with Carmarthenshire County Council to transform an old Debenhams store into a health, wellbeing, education, and leisure hub
