Building Better Healthcare has taken a look at the latest technologies NHS Trusts and other healthcare providers have integrated into their systems to advance their digital evolution in April 2025.
In April, the government announced a nationwide rollout of the NHS App.
The latest government figures reveal that 1.5 million appointments have been saved through the expanded use of the NHS App.
The NHS app enables users to book and manage appointments, view prescriptions, access GP health records, and receive notifications all from their smartphones.
By streamlining these processes, the service is alleviating pressure on frontline healthcare providers while empowering patients with better access to their own information.

The government has now exceeded its initial target to increase the number of hospitals, enabling appointment information to be viewed via the app.
As of the end of March 2025, 87% of hospitals are offering this functionality, a sharp rise from 68% in July 2024.
The NHS app is a key part of the government’s broader Plan for Change, which aims to reduce hospital backlogs and modernise patient care.
April also saw several cybersecurity alerts and updates by NHS England Digital, which addressed critical vulnerabilities in software and systems.
Despite threats to the NHS’s online systems, positive progress is being made in the digitisation of the service.
