Private ambulance company enhances safety with 20 Ambulance Child Restraints

Private ambulance company, Amvale Medical Transport, has further enhanced the safety of patients in its vehicles by installing 20 Ambulance Child Restraints (ACRs) from ParAid Medical.

The fleet of emergency vehicles will be fully equipped to ensure the safe transportation of infant and child patients across the country.

Designed to provide maximum protection when travelling, the ACR is the only paediatric restraint on the market used on patient stretchers that is capable of fitting all children weighing 5kg-45kg.

Significantly reducing the chances of potentially-dangerous movement during transit, the ACR is an innovative, flexible and adjustable harnessing system that has been fully crash tested to BSEN: 1789 compliance levels, to ensure that it provides the highest level of safety for children being transported to hospital.

Rick Kendall, fleet manager at Amvale Medical Transport, said: “Safety is extremely important to us and in order to make sure that we were complying with NHS guidelines we thought it was necessary to introduce the ACR to our ambulance fleet. The ACR is so simple to use, its versatility means that our young patients are fully secure during transit.”

Darryl Smith, operations manager at ParAid Medica, added: “The ACR was specifically designed to increase the safety of child patients travelling in ambulances. We currently offer the broadest weight range for a specialist restraint – something that previously was not available.

“Standard stretcher harnesses are tested and fitted to restrain a patient weight of 75kgs, however this may not be suitable for smaller patients where a close proximity restraint device would be preferable.”

The ACR is available in three sizes and is universally compatible with any stretcher.

Constructed with breathable fabric, it includes quick-release straps for medical intervention. The harness allows the child patient to be secured at a variety of bed angles and in the recovery position easily and quickly. It is also machine washable, ensuring the highest standards of infection control.
