Wildgoose Construction has started work on a new GP surgery in Peterborough.
The Alfreton-based firm is building the medical centre in Craig Street for the GPI group - one of the UK’s largest investors in primary care.
The centre will house two existing surgeries – North Street and The Surgery 63 Lincoln Road – which are merging.
The new three-storey surgery will be a state-of-the-art primary care resource centre providing a range of services including a pharmacy, district nursing, community and therapy and physiotherapy as well as GP core services.
Designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating, the completed scheme will provide 2,400sq m of space on a site opposite 63 Lincoln Road and only 320m from the existing North Street Surgery.
Tim Walker, managing director of Wildgoose Construction, said: “We are pleased that the client’s vision to build a state-of-the-art medical centre that will provide patients and staff with superb spacious and modern facilities will become a reality in 12 months.”
Dr Peter Hadfield from North Street surgery added: “While it is sad to leave premises that have been GP surgeries for over 100 years, we look forward to working in a wonderful new building designed for 21st-century healthcare. It should enable us to improve the care for all our patients and deliver new, innovative services in the community.”
GPI has invested more than £7m in the project, which is due to complete by the summer of 2015.
