Building work is due to begin next week to refurbish and renovate Castle Street Medical Centre in Bolsover.
Investment of over £100,000 has been earmarked by Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust to bring the outdated building up to the latest standards for modern healthcare.
The planned extensive refurbishment work inside the building will include a new boiler, plumbing and hot water system, electrical/IT and ventilation systems, as well as the creation of a new plantroom and an additional consulting room to cater for the anticipated growth in patient numbers.
The room layout will be changed and existing consulting rooms upgraded.
General improvements in wheelchair access, toilet facilities, storage of medical records, lighting, fire safety and security measures are also part of the overall works.
The exterior work will include repairs to the roof, gutters and downpipes, damp-proofing, and replacing wooden windowframes with new UPVC units.
The work is expected to take 12 weeks, during which time surgery will temporarily relocate to Bolsover Hospital.
Dr Alex Carberry, from Castle Street Medical Centre, said: “The investment now will help to futureproof the building, creating facilities which are much more suitable for modern healthcare and more comfortable for patients.
“We can look ahead to being able to provide a better environment for patients and staff, particularly for improved infection prevention measures and wheelchair users.”
The work is being carried out by contractor, A&S Enterprises.
