Royal Bolton Hospital, part of Bolton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, has unveiled plans to significantly transform its Emergency Department.
The £1.74 million project will see a reconfiguration of the Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).
The goal is to enhance patient flow and support national targets for the four-hour quality standard and timely ambulance handovers.
Works will officially begin on Monday 14 April and are expected to take approximately 27 weeks to complete.

Despite the scale of the redevelopment, the Emergency Department will remain operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the duration of the project.
Among the key upgrades are the creation of a dedicated ambulance handover area, an additional rapid handover bay, and a newly-designed modern waiting room.
These improvements are intended to streamline operations and better accommodate the needs of both patients and staff.

Rae Wheatcroft, Chief Operating Officer at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We have made a number of changes to our Emergency Department over the years, but we know our population’s needs and the way people access care are changing faster than ever before.
“This major transformation will allow us to create a modern healthcare environment that is better for both our patients and staff, and will help us to make sure our sickest patients get to where they need to be as quickly and safely as possible.”
The hospital has confirmed that all emergency care services will continue to be fully accessible.
