LNT Care Developments has received planning permission for a 66-bed care home on the site of the former Sainsbury depot in Buntingford.
East Herts District Council’s planning committee approved the application on 11 January for the care home.
The facility will provide residential and dementia care for those aged over 65 years.
Construction is due to start next month, with a predicted completion date of January 2018.
Once complete, the home will be a strong community facility, integrating with the nearby local facilities of shops, churches and schools.
It will provide outstanding accommodation with fully en-suite bedrooms, spacious communal areas, and state-of-the-art amenities including a cinema, library, garden room, and a tea shop, all surrounded by beautifully-landscaped gardens.
It has been designed to best enable the delivery of quality care and provide a positive lifestyle choice for local people who may be frail, elderly or living with dementia.
Christine Cooper, project director at LNT Care Developments, said: “We are delighted to be building such a fantastic care home for Oakdale.
“It is also great news for Buntingford, creating 50 jobs in the local area and providing a high-quality resource for elderly people in the local community.
The facility will incorporate intelligent dementia design and be eco-friendly, benefitting from ground source heat pumps, solar thermal panels, and LED lighting.”
Chris Babington, director at Oakdale Care Group, added: “We are delighted to get planning approval for the fourth home in the Oakdale family and we are looking forward to starting this exciting development with LNT Construction.
Buntingford’s picturesque location, along with its access to local amenities, means it is a perfect fit with Oakdale’s high standards of delivering outstanding quality care in exceptional homes.”
