Royal Philips has announced the global launch of the newest addition to its portfolio of surgical imaging systems.
The Veradius Unity Mobile Surgical C-arm with Flat Detector will be unveiled at the upcoming European Society of Vascular Surgery Annual Meeting in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Veradius Unity system’s novel design and touchscreen interface improves communication and teamwork in the operating suite, thereby reducing miscommunication, delays, and time spent on the management of surgical imaging. It also enhances comprehensive X-ray dose management.
“In keeping with our approach towards solution development, we worked hard to understand what is most important to surgeons and imaging operators before working on the Veradius Unity system,” said Ronald Tabaksblat, general manager of the interventional X-ray business unit at Philips Healthcare.
“Then, we undertook independent user testing to check if the system delivered the expected benefits.”
This independent testing in a simulated environment showed that the Veradius Unity system offers the following:
- Better workflow
- 94% first-time correct positions using the system’s Position Memory (versus 49% without)
- 45% less miscommunication between physicians and operators
- 70% less frustration for operators
- 80% preference by users of the intuitive touchscreen interface
- Comprehensive X-ray dose management
- Fewer images were required to find the correct C-arm position – 24% less for initial positioning and 55% less for repositioning
- Time savings
- More than 20% reduction in time needed to position the system
Furthermore, the ability of surgical teams to perform minimally-invasive surgical procedures for cardiac, orthopedic and vascular disease patients can shorten recovery times and decrease the pressure on healthcare systems.
“The significant increase in the number and complexity of minimally-invasive vascular repairs today requires that surgical teams work together efficiently and quickly,” said Professor Dr HJM Verhagen of Erasmus University Medical Center in The Netherlands.
“Veradius Unity is the next logical step in mobile C-arm technology. Its revolutionary ease of use can play a key role in helping teams work together seamlessly by providing high-quality images, easier collimation and enhanced radiation management, while simplifying communication in the operating suite.”
