A mobile phone app that helps health professionals work with their patients to track and tackle obesity has won a Mobile & App Design Award.
The myPace app, a collaboration between Brunel University and software developer, White October, picked up the plaudits in the medical category of the inaugural awards, announced at a ceremony in Shoreditch, London earlier this month.
Designed in partnership with dieticians and funded by the European Food Information Council, the software records patient objectives, tracks their mood and sends motivational messages.
Professor in Health Research, Dr Julie Barnett, who led the Brunel team, said: “The app enables patients to stay connected with health professionals. Having agreed on their goals, the patient can record their successes and failures, and track their weight and measurements.
“We hope that this will increase the impact of the expertise of the dietician and play a role in helping to tackle the obesity problem.”
Dave Fletcher, managing director of White October, added: “This is the result of the perfect collaboration between academics, health professionals and our own digital development team. Everyone involved is thrilled that myPace has been recognised by the industry in such a prestigious way.”
