Patient outcomes system piloted at Trafford trust

A WEB-BASED system to remotely capture patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) has been developed and piloted by doctors at Trafford General Hospital shoulder surgery unit. Patients typically had to visit the clinic three times, but the third attendance was usually just protocol to collect the PROMs. They can now complete online questionnaires and the tool will suggest whether or not they need to see the consultant a third time, depending on their responses. Bibhas Roy, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust and one of the system developers, said: "I have always been interested in IT and it just seemed a waste of time to get a patient to a clinic just to ask them these questions."
