Ward 2 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital now has a dedicated end-of-life side room to support its patients who require palliative care at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT).
The ward is an acute frailty admission unit that cares for older people.
Vinci and Vinci Building Solutions repainted the room and ensuite bathroom, and a wallpaper mural was added to a feature wall to improve the environment.
The room provides a peaceful and calming place for patients and their families, bringing comfort in their final days.
Samantha Kelly, Senior Matron for QEH Medicine, said: “Sadly, some of our patients are at the end of their lives when they are admitted to the ward. It is important for us at LGT that our patients receiving end-of-life care have access to a palliative care room that provides comfort and privacy, allowing them to spend their final days as peacefully as possible, surrounded by those they care about.”
“For families, calm spaces away from the sights and sounds of a busy ward help them to come to terms with the death of a loved one and begin the grieving process,” Kelly explained.
"We would like to thank Vinci and Vinci Building Solutions for their generous contribution and refurbishment of the side room in Ward 2. Your kindness has made a lasting impact, and we greatly appreciate your commitment to improving the wellbeing of our patients in need at LGT,” Kelly concluded.
