Globus gloves now available through NHS Supply Chain framework agreement

HAIKA gloves from Globus have been awarded a place on the NHS supplier framework agreement and subsequently listed in the NHS Supply Chain product portfolio, following a successful tender for the supply of sterile surgical gloves to the NHS.

The contract is valid from this month for a four-year term and signifies the quality and service attributes of the HAIKA range.

Under EU rules, NHS trusts are limited in the value of products they can purchase from any one supplier without going through an official tender procedure. By being placed on the framework agreement, HAIKA has overcome this barrier.

The NHS has been under considerable pressure to drive cost savings, with Lord Carter tasked with leading the procurement efficiency charge. He recently said: “We’ll never get £22billion of savings by driving down the cost of rubber gloves.”

But, while he may have a valid point considering the amount the NHS is looking to save, the impact more-efficient procurement could have in this area shouldn’t be underestimated.

The NHS spends £30m per year on sterile surgical gloves alone and HAIKA has been able to help its healthcare clients save up to 40% without compromising quality. There is no doubt that double-digit savings across tens of millions of pounds cannot be balked at. The NHS, in its Better Procurement, Better Value, Better Care report also references the fact that product substitution could generate savings of up to 38%.

All HAIKA’s sterile surgical gloves, consisting of latex and non-latex variants for all surgical applications, are now listed on the NHS framework agreement. These are Callisto, Elysia, Syntis, Intra, Maxion, and Mimas surgical gloves.

In addition to providing the NHS with a comprehensive range of sterile surgical gloves, HAIKA also provides a bespoke consultancy service helping the NHS to better understand hand protection needs, thereby enabling trusts to make the right choices for frontline staff.

Mark Websper, HAIKA’s divisional leader, said: “Globus has an enviable track record of delivering high-performance, cost-effective hand protection solutions to wide variety of industries. By being awarded a place on the NHS supplier framework agreement we are now able to bring this expertise to NHS healthcare providers helping them make informed hand-protection choices without compromising quality or affecting budget constraints and targets.”
