£560,000 variation project supports local need for additional services

Internal reconfiguration work at Breightmet Health Centre in Bolton has reached practical completion, maximising clinical space on the ground floor.

The work sees the development of three new consultation rooms to support the local need for more podiatry and physiotherapy services within the 6,200sq m, three-storey building.

The work, at a cost of around £560,000 and funded by Community Health Partnerships, was supported by NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership and the One Partnership.

The ground floor was underutilised due to the layout within the building.

Making the changes will increase utilisation and provide more value for money for patients.

This partnership work alongside One Partnership and Eric Wright Group to bring physiotherapy and podiatry services closer to home. The building is also the base for Bolton’s eating disorder services alongside Alastair Ross Medical Practice and a library.

This project is part of our expanding programme of targeted capital investment and delivery projects seeking to enhance the sustainability of our health centres and improve value for money

Converting the underutilised space will add approximately 173sq m to the ground floor.

And the new consultation and examination rooms at 16sq m will accommodate double-sided access couches, clinical sinks, and extra storage cupboards.

Alongside these rooms, the other podiatry rooms will be approximately 23sq m with a specialist podiatry chair.

Service delivery will be supported by an increased dedicated waiting area.

Mark Cox, project manager for capital developments at CHP, said: “This project is part of our expanding programme of targeted capital investment and delivery projects seeking to enhance the sustainability of our health centres and improve value for money for our customers.

“Breightmet builds on a previous project at Nye Bevan Health Centre and our partnership with One Partnership, leading to cost and time savings as lessons learnt were implemented.”

Becky Massey, head of property and asset management at One Partnership, added: “We are pleased to be working with our NHS partners and CHP to make these changes to the building.

“These will enable a wider range of clinical services to be provided to the people of Bolton who use the health centre. “
