A new Urology Outpatients Department is being constructed at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading by MTX Contracts

MTX, a UK-based specialist in modern methods of construction has been chosen to build a new state-of-the-art Urology Outpatients Department at Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

The new facility, funded by the NHS Capital for Targeted Investment in Elective Recovery, is part of a broader effort to address the backlog of elective procedures.

Once completed, the unit will support the Urology, Surgical, and Outpatients teams in providing high-quality care to patients.

A total of 44 factory-manufactured structural steel units have already been craned into position at the hospital, forming the framework for the 1,400m² facility.

The project is expected to be completed later this year.

Designed to enhance urological care, the new department will feature six consultation and examination rooms, an ultrasound scanner room, and a spacious treatment area.

Additional dedicated spaces include a treatment and chemotherapy room, a lithotripter room for non-invasive kidney stone treatments, and a flexible laboratory.

The layout has been carefully designed to support both staff efficiency and patient flow, incorporating offices, a staff rest area, locker and changing facilities, as well as reception and waiting areas.

A dedicated plant room on the first floor will house air handling units and other essential mechanical and electrical services.

These have been prefabricated offsite as modules in accordance with the Government’s Design for Manufacture and Assembly protocols, further streamlining the construction process.

MTX has extensive experience in managing hospital construction projects with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.

The company is ensuring that work is carried out to the highest safety and environmental standards, allowing Royal Berkshire Hospital to continue its 24/7 services uninterrupted.
