Morgan Sindall has begun work on new health facilities at the St Luke’s site in Market Harborough, Leicestershire.
The company was appointed to build the £8m health facility by NHS Property Services via the East Midlands Property Alliance (empa) framework.
St Luke’s will be a modern and technically-advanced health facility set in a landscaped 1.78 hectares site located in a prominent position in Market Harborough.
On completion, a wide range of healthcare services are to be provided that currently operate across a number of NHS sites in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The facilities will provide a mixture of outpatient services including GP services, outpatient clinics and diagnostics, an X-ray department, mental health services and physiotherapy and occupational therapy services. There will also be some non-clinical, administrative services based on the site.
Richard Fielding, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: “It is a great privilege to be able to deliver this landmark development through empa on behalf of the NHS.
“We have previously delivered a large number of healthcare developments in a range of sizes and in very different locations and we look forward to bringing our experience to bear on this project.”
Dr Richard Palin, a local GP and chairman of East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We know that the people of Market Harborough have been waiting for this new facility to be built and I am delighted to be here on site at St Luke’s today to see the work starting. We are looking forward to seeing this new, state-of-the-art health facility come to fruition where local people will be able to access a wide range of high-quality health services in a safe, fit-for purpose environment.”
Alan Coole, head of empa, added: “Improving facilities for local communities is at the heart of what we do at empa. This NHS construction project is one we are delighted to see start on site; not only will this scheme save the taxpayer money but it will have a real and lasting impact to the people of Leicestershire too.”
And Martin Royal, regional director at NHS Property Services, said: ‘This is an important milestone for the project and for the local community. A lot of hard work and dedication has gone into making the hospital a reality and we look forward to working with Morgan Sindall and the health commissioners to deliver a first-class, modern health facility for Market Harborough and the surrounding district.’
