Medical Air Technology (MAT) recently completed the refurbishment of two ultraclean theatres at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital, Margate.
The hospital is part of the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest hospital trusts in England.
MAT had just two weeks per theatre for the installation, replacing the existing ultraclean ventilation canopies (UCVs), also from MAT, with canopies from the company’s new ECO-flow solution, offering a wider and more-advanced range of options and benefits.
All work was carried out in a live environment, so required careful co-ordination and liaison between everyone involved. MAT had three weeks to complete all the design, purchasing and manufacturing of the new canopies, before everything was transported to Margate to be installed. MAT also provided most of the HVAC-related mechanical and electrical services, working closely with the hospital’s builder and general electrical contractor.
Close co-operation meant the project went smoothly, quickly and successfully, and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital now has two upgraded ultraclean theatres, ensuring the residents of east Kent have access to the best surgical environments and outcomes.
MAT’s ECO-flow range of UCVs, now also available in a screenless option, the DYNAMIC, was designed to support the NHS in its efforts to meet energy efficiency targets. It received industry-wide recognition in 2014 when shortlisted for two prestigious Building Better Healthcare Awards, appearing in both the Innovative Carbon Reduction and Sustainability categories.
The range is part of MAT’s commitment to bringing hospitals world-class products that guarantee increased efficiency, whole-life cost savings and valuable additional operating benefits.
