When it comes to the safe, reliable and energy-efficient temperature-controlled storage for drugs and vaccines, two of London’s largest hospitals - St Barts and The Royal London Hospital - have turned to medical refrigeration specialist, Lec Medical, to source the latest in medical and ward refrigeration equipment.
As part of a £1billion project across the two sites at St Barts and The Royal London - part of the Barts Health NHS Trust - Lec Medical recently supplied approximately 120 medical fridges and freezers.
Working with contractors, Skanska, the scheme at St Barts comprised of the construction of a new concrete-framed clinical facility to consolidate the existing, widely-spread hospital operations into a single purpose-built unit.
Commenting on the decision to specify Lec Medical’s leading range of medical refrigeration within the new facilities, Crispin Walkling-Lea, interior design programme manager and commissioning lead for the New Hospitals Programme, said: “Lec Medical was successful in its tender for this contract due to a combination of competitive pricing and an excellent product. Previous experience with the company reassured us that their logistics and project management processes would ensure that delivery and installation ran smoothly and we were not disappointed.
The Lec Medical brand was also specified when supplying all medical and ward refrigeration for the largest hospital ever built in the UK - The Royal London Hospital - also part of Barts Health NHS Trust (phase 1). Almost 300 Lec Medical refrigerators and freezers formed part of this installation, together with lab products and ice machines.
Shirley Embling for the New Hospitals Project said: “Lec Medical successfully completed the delivery and installation of medical refrigeration at the Royal London Hospital Phase 1. Since then, the trust has placed a number of additional smaller orders following the main installation and has continued to be impressed with the standard of service and speed of delivery it has received."
