Leicester Trust seeks new telecoms provider
UNIVERSITY Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL-TR) is seeking a provider for a £14m managed five-year contract to upgrade its telephony network and help it move into mobile communications. The trust wants to provide its clinicians with smartphone technology instead of the existing PBX system, which costs around £1m a year in line rental and call charges. Darren Brown, telecommunications manager at UHL-TR, said: "We need to upgrade the current infrastructure and hardware, so part of the tender is a technical refresh, which will bring us up to the modern-day standards. At the moment some doctors will be carrying around their own mobile, the hospital's mobile and a bleeper. We want to replace that and give them a device that does it all."
