The Trust has announced that it will begin refurbishing parts of the LRI as well as parts of Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield Hospital

NHS University Hospital Leicester has announced that construction work will begin on Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) in the summer 2025.

The new hospital will be built where there are already old buildings, but some of the services will still operate from them.

However, from the summer of 2025 the Trust will begin refurbishing parts of the LRI as well as parts of Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield Hospital, so that teams working in those older buildings can move into new homes which better suit the delivery of modern healthcare.

In late 2025, construction works will begin to build an extension to the Windsor Building

This will affect the following services:

  • Hearing and Balance
  • Inpatient pharmacy
  • Occupational Health

Then, in late 2025, construction works will begin to build an extension to the Windsor Building.

The new hospital will be built where there are already old buildings, but some of the services will still operate from them.

At the same time, work will begin on a large trench running from the multi-storey car park to the main entrance to the Windsor Building.

This is to enable the installation of new cables and pipes that will carry more data, electricity, and other services to the new buildings.
