Kainos announces launch of new shared care record and interoperability platform with Gloucestershire ICS
Technology joins up health and social care services
Kainos has announced the successful launch of a new interoperability initiative with the Gloucestershire Health and Social Care community to deliver Joining Up Your Information (JUYI).
Gloucestershire Integrated Care System (ICS) is a shared care record platform which gives an overview of patient health and social care information in a single digital record.
The solution addresses the widespread need for interoperability across healthcare providers and enables secure managed sharing of patient information with a blended clinical view supporting GPs, hospitals, community, out of hours, mental health and social care teams.
This new record means that if clinicians have key information readily available to them, they will be able to devote more quality time with their patients, which can only be better for everyone
Key components of the cloud-based platform are its Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR) standard capability and open API standards, enabling the swift delivery of new applications for healthcare which make full use of data that is otherwise locked in proprietary systems.
Chief clinical information officer for NHS Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Dr Paul Atkinson, said: “This new digital record means professionals are able to see patient’s information in one place, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“We are already seeing this in action with the Community Rapid Response team who provide care 24/7, supporting people at home and reducing the need for them to go to hospital.”
Michael Richardson, deputy director of nursing and director of infection prevention and control at Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, added: “The best care can depend on the best information.
“Through working in partnership with the Gloucestershire Health and Care community we have developed a modern interoperability platform that is scalable for the future, with user-centred design at its core

And John Smith, healthcare director at Kainos, told BBH: “Through working in partnership with the Gloucestershire Health and Care community we have developed a modern interoperability platform that is scalable for the future, with user-centred design at its core.
“Adoption of open standards including HL7 FHIR has played a central role in the successful implementation of this solution and we will continue to innovate in this space by combining FHIR with OpenEHR to provide a rich vendor-neutral data platform with industry-standard APIs.”
