Saint John of God Hospital will use patient record platform to deliver safer, streamlined inpatient and outpatient services

Saint John of God Hospital in Ireland is set to implement a new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) with integrated Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) from software provider, Civica.

The hospital, part of The Saint John of God Hospitaller Services Group, is an acute psychiatric teaching hospital in Ireland and one of Europe’s leading providers of mental health treatment and care.

With 180 inpatient beds, the hospital provides mental health treatment to both adults and adolescents.

The hospital was seeking a new agile system in the cloud to meet bedside recording needs as well as care planning and progress notes.

The Civica Care Records EPR will support improved reporting across the hospital, with better data capture, such as allowing clinicians to pull core diagnoses from the system and plan accordingly to meet patient demands.

This will reduce admininstration and task burden on both clinical and non-clinical staff, streamline operations, and give easy and secure access to patient data.

The newly-integrated Civica Prescribing EPMA will bring better visibility for medication management and reviews.

And it means the hospital will have one platform, removing paper notes and supporting clinicians to carry out best practice, which ensuring compliancy with Mental Health Commission regulations.

Geraldine Corr, the hospital’s director of nursing, said: “The new Civica EPR will be a core implementation and essential to our digital transformation strategy.

“It will allow us to innovate and develop for the future; both meeting the current needs of our patients while futureproofing our organisation and ensuring we are able to continuously invest.

“Civica showed a very good understanding of our needs and we are confident the new platform will bring us an agile system to ultimately improve patient care.”

Steve Brain, executive director, Health and Care at Civica, added: “Our EPR software is already helping health organisations around the world deliver smarter and safer patient care.

“We’re delighted to partner with The Saint John of God Hospital as it moves to the next stage of delivering an excellent, person-centred and recovery-oriented service with safer, streamlined services for the future.”
