New technology makes incident reporting easy and efficient
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, a provider of acute and specialist health services with 10,000 staff is using Datix software to increase efficiencies within the Trust. Since implementing the latest web-based Datix incident, risk, legal and safety alerts modules, the Trust has increased incident reporting levels which in turn has helped the Trust respond more efficiently to risks, as well as ensuring team learning from incidents.
In April 2014, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust completely overhauled its patient safety system based on Datix. According to Tammy Moorcroft, Safety and Effectiveness programme manager at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, “The introduction of Datix and the new modules has helped ensure that the Trust continues to implement learning from incidents and gives us a central place for risks to be measured and tracked.”
Easily accessible and simple to use, one of the biggest benefits is the accuracy of the data held in the Datix system to create meaningful change, share learning and promote best-practice. New processes and procedures can ultimately be fed back into changes in policy to promote patient safety.
Jonathan Hazan, director at Datix, concluded, “Like many healthcare organisations, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is complex and faces the daily challenges of delivering excellent care whilst adhering to the latest regulatory changes in the industry. It relies on Datix to deliver flexible, highly scalable technology to provide the data required to meet requirements.”
