A 12-month telehealth project in the North West and a ground-breaking cardiology diagnostic service were among the winners at the 2012 Health Investor Awards .
For the second consecutive year, Tunstall Healthcare was named Telehealth/Telecare Provider of the Year in recognition of the success of its 12-month telehealth project in partnership with the NHS Halton and St Helens division of Bridgewater Community Health Services. The project reduced unnecessary hospital admissions by 30% and enabled early discharge for people with long-term conditions, as well as revealing substantial cost savings and almost halving the average length of hospital stay for patients.
Tunstall scooped the award despite stiff competition from other leading providers including Bosch, O2 Health, Philips, Telehealth Solutions and GE Home Healthcare.

This year’s title of Diagnostics Provider of the Year went to InHealth, for a number of recent innovations including the launch of ground-breaking cardiology services.
InHealth’s chief executive, Richard Bradford, said: “It is a great achievement and recognises our growth and the depth of our activities across the healthcare sector, supported by the significant continuing contribution from our staff.”
The awards ceremony this year was hosted by former athlete and television presenter, Roger Black MBE, and attended by more than 1,100 leading independent health sectors figures, celebrating the achievements of firms across 22 different categories. The 2012 judging panel included former health ministers Lord Ara Darzi and Lord Hutton of Furness.
Other winners included Barclays, which won the Bank or Lender of the Year award; HCA International, which was named Private Hospital Group of the Year ; Healthcare at Home, which won the Primary Care Provider of the Year prize; and Assura, which scooped the prize for Property Investor of the Year. In the competitive field of healthcare IT, the IT Innovator of the Year award went to Cambridge Healthcare; and Property Developer of the Year was gbpartnerships.
And Barchester Healthcare picked up two accolades, for Residential Care Provider of the Year and its chief executive, Mike Parsons, was recognised for Outstanding Contribution by an Individual .
A company spokesman said: "This is the biggest event of the year for the health industry - promoting excellence and recognising innovation in the independent healthcare sector."
He added: "Mike received this award for championing the care sector for the past two decades. He has done this by consistent innovation within the market and leading 20 years of growth to make Barchester a company that has never lost sight of its principles and is a byword for the highest quality care; sustained and sustainable growth and good relations with employees."
