A new health centre has opened in East Riding of Yorkshire.
Designed by architects, Gelder and Kitchen, the recycled modular buildings, from Foremans Relocatable Building Systems, were craned into position in just eight hours.
The single-storey facility, which is clad in brickwork to match surrounding buildings in the historic village of Cottingham, brings together a range of community services including a GP centre, community dental practice, child health services, podiatry and audiology clinics and replaces a number of temporary facilities that have been operating in the area since the devastating floods of 2007.
Stephen Dale, capital projects manager at NHS East Riding of Yorkshire, said: “Speed of delivery was important to enable us to re-provide clinical services as quickly as possible. The use of a recycled building structure also made our budgets go further, providing excellent value as well as having a number of environmental benefits.”
Henry Chadwick, partner at Gelder and Kitchen, added: “We are impressed with the finish and the space the modular approach has created internally. It is spacious and open and you would never know it was a modular building or a recycled building.”
