Doncaster Royal Infirmary expands diagnostic capacity with CT suite and advanced SPECT-CT unit

DBTH has strengthened its diagnostic infrastructure with two new units facilities that support its long-term modernisation strategy

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) has unveiled a new CT suite at Bassetlaw Hospital and an advanced SPECT-CT unit at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

“This investment in medical imaging has modernised our facilities, ensuring we provide the best possible care environments and improved outcomes for our patients,” said Dr Kirsty Edmondson Jones, Director of Infrastructure at DBTH.

At Bassetlaw Hospital, the Trust has opened a newly built CT suite equipped with a second CT scanner.

The additional machine will ensure continuity of service when routine maintenance is carried out, reducing the need for patients to travel to Doncaster for essential imaging.

The suite has been designed to offer a calm, comfortable environment, including modern décor and wall murals to help put patients at ease.

At Doncaster Royal Infirmary, a new SPECT-CT scanner has been installed within a purpose-built suite.

The technology combines traditional CT imaging with nuclear medicine, allowing clinicians to see both the structure and function of organs in a single scan.

Dedicated preparation areas have also been incorporated to improve privacy and comfort for patients undergoing nuclear medicine procedures.

The upgrades follow the recent expansion of diagnostic services at Montagu Hospital, where a new imaging suite was developed as part of the Community Diagnostic Centre programme.

The imaging upgrade comes as DBTH recently broke ground on a £19.8m state-of-the-art Critical Care Department at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, part of a broader wave of investment to modernise its estate and improve services for critically ill patients.
