Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust has begun construction on the new £25m Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) for Slough.
Set to open in Christmas 2025, the Slough CDC will be located on the northwest of the Upton Hospital site.
The project was given the green light in March 2024, and demolition work has been ongoing.
Once operational, the CDC will provide up to 150,000 additional tests annually, operating seven days a week for 12 hours each day.
The Slough CDC will have access to the latest technology with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners, computerised tomography (CT) scanners and ultrasounds, and will diagnose and improve outcomes for patients with conditions including cancer and heart disease.
The Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) programme was introduced in 2021, and since then, it has enabled over 7 million appointments to be delivered.
For the construction and estates development, the Trust has partnered with Western Building Systems and NHS Property Services.
Both these companies were gathered with the Trust and local NHS leaders for the groundbreaking at the end of November 2024.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, James Clarke, Chief Strategy Officer at Frimley Health, said: "The £25m Slough CDC will play a vital role in addressing health inequalities by ensuring that diagnostic services are accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live.
“This facility is not just an investment in buildings and equipment—it’s an investment in our people, our community, and our future.”
