Bug-busting bracelet set to revolutionise hand hygiene
Designer invents quick-use portable handwash device which is worn like a bracelet
A new bug-busting bracelet could provide a low-cost solution in the war against healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) such as MRSA and C.difficile.
Design graduate, Maddy Conaghan, has invented Flo, a portable hand sanitation device worn around the wrist like a bracelet.
When a doctor or nurse has finished with a patient, they rub the bracelet and sanitising liquid is automatically dispensed to be massaged into the palms and forearms.
The speed and ease of delivery means staff can carry on with their work without disruption or delay.
Peter Atkinson, a community nurse from Brighton, said: “It’s vital that we protect our patients from infection and Maddy’s device looks like it could be a real winner as it’s so straight forward and convenient.”
She is now hoping to develop Flo into a commercial venture.
She said: “Design that can really help people is what I am passionate about and Flo could help medical staff keep infection rates down without interrupting patient contact.”
