Project aims to grow region\'s healthcare technologies sector


The University of Hull has announced plans to launch a new project to grow the region’s healthcare technologies sector.

Supporting Yorkshire & The Humber’s New Technologies For Health (SYNTH) will benefit SMEs in areas include healthcare technologies, bioscience, engineering, electronics, ICT and creative and digital technologies, advanced manufacturing, food and drink, chemical and logistics.

Under the plan, the university is looking for new ideas and technologies that could be adapted and applied to the healthcare sector. SMEs may also be eligible for up to five days free support.

A university spokesman said: “The university has specialisms in telehealth, functional food/nutraceuticals, skin health/integrity and medical devices/technologies and in conjunction with other agencies and projects, SYNTH will provide innovation support to MedTech companies and those from other sectors with the potential to apply their ideas, products, processes and technologies.

The project is being backed by an application for funding from the Yorkshire & Humber European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Programme 2007-13.
