Global design and engineering consultancy firm has been chosen as consultant for healthcare projects at Airedale, Royal Cornwall and Aintree hospital

Arcadis has been selected to lead on three significant healthcare projects in the UK.

The global company delivers sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy services for world-class healthcare facilities.

Dominic Wilson, UK&I Business Director and Interim Sector Leader for Health at Arcadis, said: “We look forward to collaborating with our partners and applying a patient-first approach to create world-class healthcare facilities that will significantly improve care and wellbeing.”

The three significant projects at Airedale New Hospital, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, and Aintree University Hospital will add to a growing portfolio of delivering data-driven, patient-centred design and advisory services in the healthcare sector.

Airedale

Selected to serve as a Trust Cost Advisor, Arcadis will deliver a new state-of-the-art healthcare facility for Airedale Hospital in West Yorkshire.

The project is part of the UK government’s £1.5bn New Hospital Programme to build 40 new hospitals by 2030.

In collaboration with delivery partners, the firm will support the production of the Business case to replace the crumbling Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) hospital with a modern, safe and efficient healthcare environment that improves patient outcomes and experiences.

RAAC is a lightweight, bubbly form of concrete that was used to build schools, colleges and hospitals in the 1960s to the 1980s. Currently, more than 83% of the current Airedale estate is constructed of RAAC.

Cornwall

Also part of the New Hospital Programme, Arcadis is selected to lead as a cost manager for the new Women’s and Children’s hospital project in Cornwall. The project will deliver 20,000 sqm of modern hospital space to provide digitally enabled facilities and world-class care for the 590,000 residents of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The firm aims to ensure that the project is delivered efficiently, within budget, and with the highest standards of value for money.

Aintree

In a series of wins, Arcadis was also chosen to design part of the proposed 100,000 sqft expansion at Aintree University Hospital in Fazakerley.

For this, three new healthcare buildings will be redeveloped for the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust after the wards that once stood there were demolished in June 2023 due to structural concerns.

The new facilities will service urgent care and trauma patients.

“Aracdis is deeply committed to improving the quality of life across the United Kingdom through delivering exceptional value to our clients,” said Wilson.
