GP consortium opts for MedeAnalytics technology

NHS West Kent primary care trust has signed a deal to deploy MedeAnalytics’ Clinical Commissioner business intelligence and analytics solution on behalf of the new Maidstone and Malling Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

The GP consortium chose the system over the PCT’s own technology in an effort to improve visibility of financial performance and enable better decisions on future spending in line with QIPP targets.

Powered by Pathway Solutions’ validation module, it will provide GPs and other stakeholders within greater, more immediate, insight into charges they are given by hospitals for individual patient care, enabling them to match these with their own records, then query, accept or reject the charges if there is a discrepancy. In doing so, it will help to monitor utilisation and ensure accurate payment for services, saving the trusts money and improving efficiency across local health economies.

Dr Thomas Reichhelm, deputy chairman and performance lead at the CCG, said: “With our previous system there was a disconnect between the accuracy and timeliness of the secondary and primary care data we received. Getting the insight we needed to improve our financial management and clinical healthcare pathways was a cumbersome and time-consuming process and as a result, there was very little buy-in from GPs across the region. This system truly allows us to be closer to the data. We have the buy-in from GPs in the 11 practices across the region and are convinced this engagement will enable us to drive collaboration and shared insight.”
