Launch of MyHealthMonitor in the UK aims to improve patient engagement and compliance

A web-based tool that increases patient engagement and encourages compliance launched in the UK today.

MyHealthMonitor was unveiled at the International Congress on Telehealth and Telecare 2012 , in London.

It enables healthcare professionals and patients to monitor a range of disease areas together, using tools including real-time monitoring of patient vitals; e-Consulting, which connects patients in their home to physicians in a clinic; alerts; and tailored treatment plans.

MyHealthMonitor has been successfully used in both primary and secondary care settings in the Netherlands, with more than 50,000 chronic patients in 12 different disease areas including COPD, diabetes, MS and heart disease.

The success experienced in the Netherlands gives huge confidence that MyHealthMonitor can serve as a fantastic resource in the UK, encouraging patients to take control of their own health at home in collaboration with their healthcare team, while also tackling growing resource demands and pressures in healthcare

Diabetes nurse specialist, Annet Zwiers, has been using the programme since 2006 and said: “The main advantage of using the e-Health tool is that I can see what patients are doing at home and can advise them on a daily basis. When patients need to find the right insulin dosage, we can quickly contact the patient through eConsult and advise them by checking their online personal health diaries.”

Benefits of the approach include enabling doctors to track the progress of their patients, fewer and more productive outpatient appointments, improvements in data exchange, and better access to a complete and up-to-date medical history. It has also been found to optimise compliance.

“The success experienced in the Netherlands gives huge confidence that MyHealthMonitor can serve as a fantastic resource in the UK, encouraging patients to take control of their own health at home in collaboration with their healthcare team, while also tackling growing resource demands and pressures in healthcare”, says Cliff Wyatt, managing director of HealthCare21 - the company which will lead the introduction of MyHealthMonitor in the UK.

He added: “The UK launch of MyHealthMonitor is particularly timely and addresses many of the key objectives laid out by David Cameron in the 3MillionLives campaign, which aims to enhance the lives of three million people with chronic conditions over the next five years through utilising telehealth and reduce growing pressure on the NHS.”
