Saint-Gobain Ecophon’s Soundlight Comfort range is the latest innovation in noise and lighting solutions.
It is the result of a close partnership between Ecophon and Philips; two companies that put the environment and patient wellbeing at the core of everything they do.
As part of a large-scale refurbishment, the Saint-Gobain head office in Binley, Coventry, is the first building in the UK to feature the Soundlight Comfort Ceiling solution. The project was installed by Nottingham Suspended Ceilings; an Ecophon Partner in Contracting (EPIC).
The partnership between Ecophon, a leading global manufacturer in acoustic ceilings and wall panel solutions, and Philips, an expert in LED lighting, was formed with the desire to deliver combined solutions for acoustics and lighting. Following the launch of the first product, a free-hanging acoustic panel with inbuilt LED lighting, the Soundlight Comfort solution takes the partnership to a new level; a fully-integrated ceiling system designed to keep noise and lighting levels at an optimum level for personal comfort.
The modern workplace can often be a crowded and noisy place to work and, as studies have shown, noise from meetings and phone calls are the main environmental disturbances that affect an employee’s concentration.
With the aim to minimise workplace disturbances at the heart of the project, the Soundlight Comfort Ceiling from Ecophon and Phillips was designed to create the sound absorption needed to reduce the total distance of which sound travels and ensure speech clarity over short distances.
The system is installed as a suspended ceiling, using Ecophon Connect grid as support. It features a combination of LED tiles and 40mm acoustic tiles. Developed to deliver a class A acoustic performance across the area it covers, the LED tiles installed into the system have been designed to contain lighting elements but also provide acoustic absorption, with a 15mm absorber an integral part of the LED unit.
Following the recent installation at the Saint-Gobain Binley office, Will Jones, marketing manager at Ecophon, has high hopes for the future of the Soundlight Comfort range, commenting: “The system has received huge interest from architects and clients and we are seeing increasing levels of specification on projects. With refurbishments like this one in Binley to demonstrate the success of the system, we are expecting to see orders and exciting projects throughout 2014.”
