Med-Tech Innovation Expo UK 2013 to focus on the design and development of medical devices

The UK’s first conference and exhibition dedicated to the growing medical device manufacturing industry will take place in Coventry next spring.

The Med-Tech Innovation Expo UK 2013 (MTI Expo UK) will take place on 10 and 11 April and will focus on research, design, development and manufacturing. It is aimed at machinery and component suppliers, OEMs, academics, clinicians and NHS staff from across the UK.

Colin Martin, director of MedTech Communications, publisher of Med-Tech Innovation and organiser of the event, said: “Based on our market research and given the robust state of the industry, together with the emphasis, acknowledged importance and support by government for the future growth of the sector, now is the right time to offer the industry an alternative event that is 100% focused and has the support of the co-branded magazine, web site and video channel behind it.

“Whether you’re currently working in the medical technology market, or looking to diversify into this growing sector, the MTI Expo UK will be the place to learn about innovations and make good business contacts. Whether you visit the exhibition for free, or join us as a delegate at the two-day conference, we’re pulling out all the stops to make sure this an international event and that everyone leaves with promising business leads and strategic inspiration.”

The launch of the event follows the publication of the Strategy for UK Life Sciences prospectus from the Department of Business Innovation and Skills, which sets out the strategic importance of the sector, as well as the Government’s goals and aspiration for the UK medical technology industry.

As a result, the BioMedical Catalyst Fund, worth £180m, has been set up by the Medical Research Council and the Technology Strategy Board. To help companies access this funding, the MTI Expo UK will include a University Innovation Zone to showcase and support medical technology innovation between clinicians, academics and industry.

Annie Ellerton, director of editorial content at Med-Tech Innovation , said: “Our reason for being has always been to help forge stronger links between all those involved in the new product development process – academic researchers, designers, manufacturers and the supplier community. MTI Expo UK will be the physical manifestation of this dynamic synergy.”
