Work is underway on a £6.1m specialist care home for local people in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) has appointed construction company, Stepnell, to create a high-quality 64-bed specialist dementia care home.
The 3,600sq m, two-storey development will be built on the site of the existing empty 1970s Paddocks care home off Hilperton Road.
Stepnell’s Wantage team will demolish the existing building before starting construction work on the new development, which is set for completion in autumn 2016.
OSJCT has designed the spacious living environment of the new care home specifically to support and improve the quality of life for people with dementia and is working with the University of Stirling to achieve a gold standard accreditation - the highest accolade demonstrating best practice in dementia design.
The new facility will create a homely and welcoming environment for residents and will include a wide range of communal facilities including a café, hair salon, shop and cinema. There will also be landscaped communal gardens to the rear, including sensory garden areas, raised planters, water features and accessible planting beds for residents to use. Most of the existing trees and hedgerows at the site are being retained, with 30 new trees to be planted together with hedgerows and planted beds.
