Stepnell has announced it has finished work on the new Queensway Medical Centre in Wellingborough, creating state-of-the-art medical facilities for patients and staff.
The medical centre has moved into the purpose-built premises in Olympic Way from its previous home nearby in the same street.
Designed by architects, maber, the new two-storey building accommodates a large GP practice and pharmacy, with 12 consulting rooms, two minor illness rooms, two treatment rooms, a minor operations room with a recovery room, support and welfare facilities and administration and ancillary areas.
A double-height glazed atrium houses the entrance lobby and waiting area, while energy-saving photovoltaic panels have been installed. The facades are complemented by a brise soleil solar shading system. Externally there is a car park and extensive landscaping.
The new facility has transformed a derelict site previously occupied by the Eagle pub, which burnt down in 2009.
Stepnell was brought in to complete building work when the original contractor went into administration during the project.
Stepnell managing director, Mark Wakeford, said: “This building provides state-of-the-art facilities and a welcoming environment for the medical centre and its patients. I’m delighted that our project team was able to step in and complete the construction work, drawing on our expertise in delivering modern healthcare developments built to the most stringent standards.”
