New roofing system deployed as part of government-funded revamp

Hull Royal Infirmary has been crowned with a 1,000sq m Sika Liquid Plastics fully built-up roofing system as part of an £8m facelift.

The 13-storey building on Anlaby Road now has new windows, concrete repairs around the entire building, resurfaced exterior walls, and a new roofing system, thanks to government funding received by Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust.

There were a number of major factors that led to leading national industrial and commercial roofing company, Briggs Amasco installing this particular Sika Liquid Plastics roofing system. A single point guarantee was required and the product needed to be applied cold. The trust had used this application system extensively before, so therefore had full confidence it was the right choice.

In keeping with the project’s design, the roof was installed with a fully built-up system. A vapour control layer was applied with 130mm of Decotherm insulation and Gamma 20 waterproofing on the surface, with non-slip walkways.

Sika Liquid Plastics’ area sales manager, Ian Myers, said: “The performance of the new roofing system is a step above the previous one. Now that it has been upgraded to comply with building regulations it is more efficient in terms of heat loss/gain.”

“As with all of our systems, the benefits are that it is a cold application. This is very effective in sealing up to detail work and offers a truly-seamless finish to the roof.”
