HeartStart XL+ helps save valuable time when responding to a cardiac emergency

Philips has announced the worldwide launch of HeartStart XL+, a crash cart defibrillator/monitor for use in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

The device is the only Philips defibrillator that, in AED mode, can defibrillate any patient – adult or child – with no special pads required, saving valuable time when responding to a cardiac emergency.

A Philips spokesman explained: “When a cardiac emergency occurs, immediate action is required and the defibrillator must be ready for use. The Philips HeartStart XL+ is designed to be reliable and user-friendly. Features that enhance its readiness include an indicator on the front panel that signals power status, an active ‘ready for use’ indicator, an easy-to-use interface, and cabling that is consistent with other defibrillators and monitors to make hand-offs care easier.”

The device easily switches between adult AED mode and infant/child AED mode at the push of a button and utilises Philips’ SMART biphasic therapy for defibrillation and synchronised cardioversion, delivering one of the fastest shocks - three seconds - to standard adult dose (150 Joules) in manual and AED mode. Other features include non-invasive blood pressure, pulse oximetry, synchronised cardioversion, pacing and trending.
