OneMedicalGroup has appointed its first lifestyle GP; TV presenter, Dr Helen Lawal.
Dr Lawal will lead its innovative health and wellness offering across the group, providing the next step in primary care.
She has been appointed to help people take a holistic approach to their health and wellness needs in line with the growing trend and emphasis towards preventative and lifestyle medicine.
Dr Lawal holds degrees in both Sport and Exercise Science (University of Leeds) and Medicine (Hull-York Medical School) and undertook her GP training at University College London Hospital.
She said: “This is a really-exciting step forward in healthcare and I’m delighted to be at the forefront of the lifestyle medicine movement in my new role at OneWellness.
“We are beginning to see a shift in the roles of GPs and other clinicians towards preventative medicine and the promotion of lifestyle changes, including addressing nutrition and exercise, as an effective and low-risk approach to preventing disease and managing and reversing chronic lifestyle-related disease such as diabetes.”
“The new Health and Body Transformation programme I’ll be offering supports people to prioritise their own health and wellbeing.
“It enables them to reshape their daily lives by giving them the tools they need to create healthy new habits and routines to ultimately improve their quality of life, prevent disease and manage any existing health problems.
“A lack of time, low energy, failed diets, and a difficulty maintaining motivation can all be such barriers – along with a lack of evidence based and reliable information.
“By being there every step of the way to provide accountability and support with a tailored programme wrapped around each client’s needs, myself and the OneWellness experts will help members stay motivated and see improvements in their health and sense of wellbeing.”
Rachel Beverley-Stevenson, chief executive of OneMedicalGroup, added: “We’re so pleased that Helen has joined us as we know she will provide an invaluable service for people across the country.
“We want people to be able to access the services they need, when they need them, and to help them achieve their own tailored goals when it comes to health and wellbeing.
“The appointment of Dr Lawal is the ideal step forward in terms of the services we provide all with the aim of improving lives.
“This new holistic approach to health and wellbeing is also in line with the NHS’s goal of delivering more preventative lifestyle medicine as well as the growing trend towards putting patients at the centre of their own wellbeing.”
