New faces join Building Better Healthcare Awards judging panel

Judges to review entries after closing date for 2018 competition

The Building Better Healthcare Awards 2018 will close for entries on Friday 3rd August, with the judges beginning the tough task of choosing this year’s winners.

Over the coming weeks the panel will be reviewing all the entries before meeting in September to make their final decisions.

The winners will be announced at a lunch reception on 31 October in central London.

And this year there are both old and new faces on the judging panel.

Returning are Jon Wilkes, head judge in the Product Class; Patricia Wilkie, our judge for the Patient’s Choice Award; and Sarah Waller, head judge in the Patient Environment Class.

And new to this year’s line-up are:

  • Jeff Bartle: Jeff manages estates on behalf of Estate Strategy Group (ESG) clients in order to ensure they are compliant and efficient. With an estates background covering over 30 years, he has a wealth of experience, both in traditional estates
  • maintenance and, more specifically, in mental health environments. He is also a director on the board of the Design in Mental Health Network. He will be head judge in the Estates and Facilities Management Class
  • Catherine Zeliotis, Stantec: Catherine was one of the architects who worked on last year’s BBH Awards Grand Prix Design Award winner, Guy’s Cancer Centre. She will be head judge in the Building Design Class
  • Dr James P Kingsland OBE: James will be joint head judge for the much-coveted Clinicians’ Choice Award. He is a GP, president of the National Association of Primary Care (UK). and co-author of the new care model, the Primary Care Home. He served as a senior GP advisor at the Department of Health between 1999-2013 and has also held advisory positions with NICE, CQC and Monitor. He is also a founding director of Waring Health, an international specialist medical consultancy firm
  • Dr Peter Carter OBE is also joining this year's judging panel

  • Dr Peter Carter OBE: Peter will also be judging the Clinicians’ Choice Award. He was chief executive of the Royal College of Nursing from 2007-2015. Prior to that he was chief executive of the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust for 12 years. A registered mental health and general nurse, he is a visiting professor at four universities, and now works as an independent healthcare consultant

The panel will continue to be overseen by chairman, Roy Lilley, an NHS commentator and former NHS trust chief executive.
