NHS Lanarkshire invests in new Dräger ventilators for critical care units at Wishaw General Hospital and Hairmyres Hospital in Lanarkshire
Dräger has completed a project with NHS Lanarkshire to supply a fleet of new Evita Infinity V500 ventilators for the critical care units at Wishaw General Hospital and Hairmyres Hospital in Lanarkshire, Scotland.
The Evita Infinity V500 ventilators, which use the latest technology to provide high-performance respiratory therapy, have been installed to replace existing ventilators across the critical care units at both hospitals.
Dräger was invited to evaluate the hospitals’ critical care ventilator solutions as part of a competitive tender process and was awarded the contract in September 2014.
Tom Hutchinson, NHS Lanarkshire head of medical physics, said: “We chose the Dräger ventilator because it scored highest in our tender evaluation, which included such factors as clinical need, cost, and maintenance requirements.
“The advanced ventilation and weaning modes available on the Dräger ventilators were particularly well liked by our clinical staff.”
Iain Lang, lead clinician for intensive care medicine at Wishaw General Hospital, added: “We are very pleased with the new Dräger Evita Infinity V500 ventilators. They provide excellent functionality and a user-friendly interface. We have been particularly happy at the ventilators ability to deliver airway pressure-release ventilation (APRV) effectively.”
The ventilators are now fully installed and operational following the delivery of an education and training programme for clinicians on how to use the new equipment.
