Work starts on elderly care home on Green Belt land in Christchurch

MedicX Healthfund will pay for the construction of a new 64-bed elderly care home in Christchurch, Bournemouth.

MedicX has entered into an agreement with Quantum to develop the property and works have now started on site. At completion, a 35-year lease will be granted to Maria Mallaband Care Group, which will operate the property.

The high-specification property will feature en-suite facilities and will provide care for people with specific nursing needs, including those with dementia.

The site, formerly Homefield School, is located in a Green Belt setting two miles to the north of Christchurch and five miles to the north east of Bournemouth, with roadside frontage onto Salisbury Road. The property forms part of a larger site which is being retained by Quantum for the development of 27 premium lodges for the elderly.

Phil Burgan, chairman, founder and chief executive of Maria Mallaband Care Group, said: “We are very proud of all our homes and believe this site provides a clear opportunity to deliver a high-quality specialist dementia unit and the ability to provide a fully integrated and seamless care package.”

David Hines, chief executive of Quantum Group, added: “We have achieved a significant planning consent and will be constructing a really beautiful building in an historic parkland setting. This not only compliments a charming area, but will provide a state-of-the-art building for Maria Mallaband Care Group to deliver first-class care.”
