A hip replacement implant made in Sheffield has been used in a record-breaking operation on Britain’s oldest person.
Gladys Hooper has now officially been officially recognised by The Guinness World Records as the oldest person to have a hip replacement operation at the age of 112.
The surgery was performed late last year at St Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight by consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Jason Millington, using a Furlong cemented hip manufactured by Sheffield-based JRI Orthopaedics.
Mrs Hooper needed the emergency surgery after falling and breaking her hip. The former concert pianist came through the operation and was able to celebrate her 113th birthday with her family last month.
