New chair for information governance board

THE Appointments Commission has announced that Dame Fiona Caldicott has been appointed as chairman of the National Information Governance Board. Christine Connelly, director general for informatics and head of NHS Connecting for Health, said: "I am delighted that Dame Fiona has accepted this important role advising the coalition government. Maintaining the confidence of the public in the ability of the health service, to both protect and use information in the delivery of care is particularly important during this period of change." Dame Fiona is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist and was previously principal of Somerville College in Oxford. She is also currently chairman of the John Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust and a past president of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. She took up the new role on June 1.
