Mental health unit planned for Wolverhampton
Planners give thumbs-up to plans for New Cross Hospital site
Plans have been approved for a new medium-secure mental health unit on the New Cross Hospital site in Wolverhampton.
The building will be erected on the site of a temporary car park and will care for people with mental health disorders.
Construction of the facility will create 60 jobs for local people.
Councillor Harman Banger said of the scheme: "The hospital unit could become a great asset to the community thanks to the jobs it will bring.
"The healthcare it will provide, as well as existing services at New Cross, means people in the area will have great access to a wide range of care."
The facility will be operated by Marantomark, which has agreed to revamp nearby Heath Town Park as part of a Section 106 planning agreement to offset the impact of the development.
