McKesson launches integrated dashboards for workforce analytics and insight

Solution provides a single source of transparent data across all trust stakeholders

McKesson UK introduces the latest addition to its workforce solutions portfolio -integrated dashboards.

The dashboards have been developed to provide a single source of information on all matters relating to workforce, enabling the development of workforce strategies based on evidence at organisational and departmental level.

This solution is a response to two major drivers for change: the need for NHS organisations to be ‘inspection ready’ in the face of increasing regulation; and the NHS’s financial position, where by the need to control costs is imperative for the successful provision of high-quality care.

NHS organisations struggle with the complexity of bringing together the huge volume of quantitative and qualitative data relating to the workforce and collating this into meaningful insight

There are currently multiple challenges facing finance, HR and workforce directors when evaluating workforce-related issues. Not only is data held in disparate systems, but the outputs from these systems often need to be manually manipulated based on the requirements of various stakeholder groups.

David Jones-Stanley, national lead for workforce solutions at McKesson, said: “Good informatics is the key to effective, yet flexible workforce planning. At present, many NHS organisations struggle with the complexity of bringing together the huge volume of quantitative and qualitative data relating to the workforce and collating this into meaningful insight. This leaves them with no effective means of evaluating the current workplace environment, let alone the opportunity to develop future workforce models.”

The integrated dashboards connect data held across NHS organisations’ disparate systems so that users can easily get insight on finance, deployment of workforce and availability, workforce experience, equality and diversity, and compliance. Dashboards can also be easily customised and will enable stakeholders to drill down into different areas of the organisation, including individual, divisional and departmental data. The solution is designed to promote local ownership of the data as well as staff engagement.

Moreover, the dashboards promote the sharing of information between the finance, HR and workforce directorates, facilitating improved communications and open dialogue to inform decision making. They will also enable comparison of workforce role mix data with other published data from the Health & Social Care Information Centre.

Laurence Ansell, sales director at McKesson, said: “Workforce spend accounts for around 70% of the health budget so solutions that help organisations measure and achieve workforce optimisation can play a key role in satisfying seemingly-divergent quality and cost objectives. We believe our dashboards solution is a powerful tool that will equip service leads with meaningful data that enables them to understand the baseline position within their services.”
