Automation-ready units now have integrated remote terminal units which incorporate an automatic transfer scheme

Lucy Electric has this week unveiled the next generation of its successful Aegis ring main unit (RMU) range, Aegis Plus.

Capitalising on more than 200 years engineering heritage, the new Aegis Plus RMUs offer a range of additional features and benefits designed to meet customers’ evolving technical and functional needs across the globe. The automation-ready units now have integrated remote terminal units (RTUs) in the form of the next-generation Gemini 3, which incorporates an automatic transfer scheme (ATS), enabling Aegis Plus to be smart grid ready.

Offering a cost-effective solution and using proven technology, the new range has a more-compact footprint and delivers superior electrical performance and high levels of reliability, personnel safety, and prolonged maintenance-free operation.

Available in 12kV, 17.5kV and 24kV options with up to 630A ratings, the RMUs can be tailored to meet customers’ specific requirements and are suitable for use in a range of applications including power generation and distribution, commercial buildings, infrastructure and industrial.

Designed for easy installation and operation, the new Aegis Plus RMUs incorporate a number of additional safety features. These include electrical interlocking, Castell and Ronis key locks, AFL/AFLR-rated gas enclosure and cable compartments and an improved integrated earth and test facility.

With different combinations of load break switches and circuit breakers available, all live parts and switching functions are insulated with SF6 gas in a hermetically-sealed, stainless steel tank. The stand-alone units provide flexible installation options and are easily converted from indoor to outdoor versions. Suitable for a broad range of environmental conditions, the new range has been fully type tested to the latest (2015) IEC standards at accredited international test laboratories.

Aegis Plus can also be configured with a host of optional accessories to meet a multitude of customer specifications. These include a wide range of (IDMT) protection relays and improved time limit fuse (TLF) protection devices, as well as an extended array of voltage detection systems (VDS/VPIS) and fault presence indication (FPI/EFI) options. Customers can also choose from a series of cable termination heights, single and double cable terminations up to 500sq mm cable sizes and a variety of new surge arrestors.

Sundeep Singh, global product marketing manager at Lucy Electric, said: “This new generation of Ring Main Units offers both Distribution Network Operators and customers in industrial markets alike an extensive range of new options and safety features to meet the changing technical requirements of electricity distribution around the world.

“Developing best-in-class solutions that meet evolving local needs and our customers’ demands for efficiency, quality and built-in flexibility, is fundamental to our business. And our dedicated energy sales services which support the full product lifecycle, means customers can buy our products with confidence.”
